As many of you might know, my journalism career started in fashion, where I was always an outsider—a brown child of working-class immigrants. All I wanted to do was bring stories of outsiders like me into the pages of those illustrious magazines. And I did. At Elle, Marie Claire magazine, Refinery29.com and more. It gave me the courage to tell our stories everywhere. For NBC News, The New York Times, The Washington Post, etc.
